FAQs and Fundraising

How does the application process work?

You must complete an online application and pay your $25 application fee at calvarychatt.com/trips by Wednesday, February 15th.
Your application will only be considered once you have also paid your application fee.

Can I raise support for the trip?

Yes! There is a mandatory fundraising meeting on Sunday, February 19th at 1:00pm to discuss support letters and fundraising efforts.

If I have been on another mission trip with Calvary Chatt, do I need to fill out an application?

It depends. If your trip was before 2020, you must submit another application.
If you have filled out an application since 2020, you will be able to update your previous information in Managed Missions.
Please follow the application link, log in, select your desired trip, and submit!

Am I required to be vaccinated or receive any immunizations in order to comply with in-country requirements?

No. We will not be taking trips to countries that have Covid policies, nor any countries with other required vaccinations/immunizations this year.

What type of work will I do on a mission trip?

Every trip is different. Trips revolve around building up the local church or parachurch ministry through effective evangelism and discipleship in the local community.
Most trips are a combination of many things, including: church service projects, community outreach, evangelism, Vacation Bible School (VBS) for children, and even conferences for pastors and leaders.
Caring for, encouraging, and loving our missionaries is also a key objective of a short term trip.

Do I need a passport?

For international trips, you must have a valid passport with at least six months remaining until passport expiration (from the date of trip departure) and at least two free pages for entry/exit visas or stamps.
For domestic trips, a valid state issued ID is required.
You must obtain these on your own. If your passport is expired or you need a new one issued, it could be advantageous to use expedited processing.

To apply for a passport, visit: Travel.State.gov/Passport

What does the trip cost cover?

The trip cost includes airfare, airport taxes, visas, meals, lodging, in-country transportation, ministry expenses, and international travel insurance.
(For our Boston 2023 trip, this answer can be found on the trip's page.)

What is not covered in the trip cost?

Airport snacks/food, souvenirs, and optional recreational/sightseeing activities. During training, you'll be informed of any additional expenses.

Do I need any previous missions experience?

No. A few of our trips are more specialized in nature, and if there are requirements, you'll be made aware of them during the interview process.
Most trips are great opportunities for those new to missions, those who are called, or those willing to try new things.

Is my deposit refundable if I'm not accepted to the team?

Yes. If for some reason Calvary Chapel makes the choice to decline your application, your fee is fully refundable. If you decide to cancel your participation, refunds cannot be made.

How can donors give toward my trip?

Donors can give online at calvarychatt.com/trips. Checks/cash can be mailed to

Calvary Chapel Chattanooga
P.O. Box 2127
Chattanooga, TN 37409

Very important details for donors:
● Do not "check out as guest" nor give through general online giving.
● Please make sure that your name is not written on the check. Each cash and check donation needs to include a donation slip so that the funds can be properly allocated to you.
● If a trip is canceled due to in-country covid restrictions, donors will receive a full refund.

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes. All donations allocated to Calvary Chapel Chattanooga are tax deductible and the donor will receive a year-end statement.
Cash and other donations made out to the individual are not tax deductible, so it's best that donors give online at calvarychatt.com/trips.

How much of the cost needs to be raised before departure?

Team participants need to have raised 100% of the finances before the date of departure.

What if incoming donations exceed my need?

Donations that exceed the need of the participant will still be used for mission projects.
First priority will be given to ministry needs of that specific trip.
If budgets for the particular mission trip are met, funds will go toward other mission projects.

Why is it important to adhere to application and financial deadlines?

Planning an international trip involves communication with embassies, travel agents, hotels, transportation providers, missionaries, and sometimes, medical professionals.
Also, depending on the cost of your trip, deadlines are strategically given to allow you plenty of time to raise support.
Applicants who apply late may be accepted if there is still availability, but will still be responsible to meet all the obligations of the trip on time, including financial due dates.

Do I have to attend all team meetings in order to be a team member?

Yes. Training is required because we are committed to preparing you as completely as possible.
This is an essential time for understanding the culture and ministry, as well as building team unity.
Team training dates are on the calendar well in advance, so you can plan accordingly.
If you commit to a trip, you are committing to training and to a team, so please give training dates the highest priority.

What kind of preparation is provided in team training?

Team training sessions are tailored to the country, culture, and ministry needs of our partners on location. We cover the language, history, and culture of the country.
Standard training includes both ministry and practical aspects. We'll go over outreach, evangelism, servanthood, team dynamics, spiritual warfare, packing, travel, safety, jetlag, on-the-ground logistics, and more.
Additionally, specialized planning for children's ministry, sports, and other activities will take place as your team creates the ministry together.

May I deviate from the group's itinerary-stay longer or leave early?

Due to restrictions imposed by airlines on individual and group tickets, deviations can often increase the cost for all other trip participants.
Therefore, we're generally unable to accommodate deviations from the group itinerary. If a deviation is required due to extenuating circumstances, the individual will be responsible for all additional costs.
Under no circumstances will deviations be allowed on the front end of the trip. The team must travel to the country together.

Do I need to attend Calvary Chapel Chattanooga to be considered?

Not necessarily, but it is preferred. We will meet with each applicant and make that decision together.
During the trip, you're a representative of Calvary Chapel Chattanooga and will be expected to adhere to our statement of faith.
Preference will be given to Calvary Chapel Chattanooga attendees if applications exceed available spots.
